Getting Started

The Process

Call for a preliminary consultation

When you call, we want to hear about your child.getting-started

How old are they?
What grade are they in?
Where do you see them struggling?
Any special development history information?
How long does homework take?
What are your goals for your child?
Anything else that you feel is important?

We will probably ask some clarifying questions.

Based on the information, if we decide that we are the best place for your child, we will recommend an evaluation.  The evaluation will take place in our office.  During the evaluation, we will examine academic ability, processing skills, visual efficiency, and motor skills. If we are evaluating your child, you may wait in our waiting room or leave and return in two hours.

The Evaluation

The evaluation will take about two hours.

When you arrive, we will take your questionnaires and take a few minutes to get to know your child and make them comfortable.
You are welcome to leave during the evaluation or you can wait in our waiting room.

During the evaluation, we will look at the following areas:

  • Processing
  • Fine and Gross Motor Skills
  • Visual Efficiency
  • Academics

At the end of the evaluation, we will give you a general idea of what we observed during the testing. You will have a pretty good idea of what we are going to recommend and what we feel your child needs. We will then set up a time to meet back within the week to go over the results.

The Consultation

At the consultation, we will give you a written report with the results of the testing and our recommendations on how to best help your child.

We will explain how the programs work and what will be required of each one.
